Wildflowers on bank
The wildflowers at Mullion Cove Hotel are looking good. However, I will have to cut them back soon as a balance needs to be kept regarding its wildlife value and how it looks aesthetically once these flowers go to seed.

It is very unusual to see a branch formation similar to this in a mature tree. Being a willow, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the result of somebody plaiting 3 willow stems from a coppiced stool, being left to nature for 30+ years! Semi-natural art

Whilst the bluebells are in flower, keep woodland management to a minimum. Their presence indicates an old woodland site, and are lovely to look at.

Field sow thistles are edible and have had lots of medicinal uses in history. The native american Cherokee tribe drank an infusion made from this plant which acted as a sedative to calm their nerves. It can delay menstruation, be a treatment for diarrhoea and the latex in the sap can be applied to skin…

This is a Winter Heliotrope which is currently in bloom throughout the grass verges in Cornwall. They are a good source of nectar for bees and other pollinators, and they have a faint scent of vanilla. However, this plant is invasive and will spread if left unmanaged, out-competing the established ground flora which is essential…
