A Hawk Moth Pupa
I found this old picture of an Elephant moth pupa amongst a wildflower meadow that I created. There are plenty of flowers in the meadow which Elephant Moth larvae (caterpillar) enjoy, such as Vipers Bugloss, Rosebay Willowherb and Wood Bedstraw. The larvae shelters in leaf litter and plant debris to pupate over winter.
They fly around as moths from May to July. These moths are common in the UK, but have amazing looking caterpillars and look stunning as moths.
